In this session of IFSA-Butler's Culture Lab, we tackle the question: "What is Critical Thinking?" In critical analysis, categories are rarely taken for granted; and concepts like "culture" or "identity" appear highly complex. Because rather than being fixed attributes of a society, a group or an individual - cultures and identities are changing all the time. Furthermore, people can share a common culture yet the culture they share may mean very different things to them. We look at how concept of "American" or "British" culture have changed over time, and we explore diversity and difference in "American", "British" and "European" cultures. You will leave with an increased awareness of the difficulties of speaking about any one given "culture" and you will be able to talk about your own study abroad experience in a way that suggests you have critically reflected upon that experience. This is an elective session and all Culture Lab students must choose at least one elective as a course requirement.
